Rep. Hein Leads Bill to Support Biofuels Through Iowa House
In the very first debate of the 2022 Legislative Session, Representative Lee Hein (R-Monticello) ran House File 2128, a bill to increase Iowans' access to biofuels, through the Iowa House.
HF 2128 increases Iowans' access to biofuels by ensuring that every retailer with the compatible equipment offers E-15. Additionally, it expands and increases available tax credits on additional biofuels.
"This bill has been a long time coming," said Hein. "We have been working hard for about a year to reach an agreement on a bill that supports Iowa's biofuels industry and our farmers, but not at the expense of the small retailers in Iowa. After countless hours of negotiations and hard work, I believe we have delivered a bill that will do just that. I was proud to lead this effort to support Iowa biofuels through the Iowa House."
Speaker of the Iowa House Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) thanked Hein for his leadership on the bill.
"Governor Reynolds and Representative Hein have been working with industry leaders for over a year on a plan to increase access to higher-ethanol blends at the pump," said Grassley. "E-15 fuel is cheaper, cleaner, and made right here in Iowa and I was proud to see this bill pass through the Iowa House with so much bipartisan support."
HF 2128 passed the Iowa House by a vote of 81-10.
