Speaker Pat Grassley Delivers Remarks on Election Night
(DES MOINES) -- Speaker of the Iowa House Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) delivered the following remarks at the Republican Party of Iowa's Election Night Party in Des Moines.
"We have some good news to report. Majority Leader and I - since we were elected to our roles - every time there's been an election whether it's a general election or a special election - we've decided we're going to pick up seats every time so I hope that's okay with you across the state.
We may have to add onto the Capitol so there's a room big enough to hold all the Iowa House Republicans that we're going to have this upcoming session. We protected every incumbent who faced attacks and lies through this election season. A message that I think we have loud and clear is that the woke mind virus comes to Iowa and it dies.
And how does the number 67 House Republicans sound to everybody? I'll tell you that's a pretty high number. We're pretty excited about that. And I think Iowans - I feel pretty confident in saying this - House Republicans continue to represent every single county within the state and we're excited that continues to grow.
And I think one clear message from this election - and we heard this all across the state - why in the world is a party running on one issue - and that one issue is killing babies up until the day of birth? And I think Iowans rejected that wholeheartedly tonight.
I see a lot of great supporters out there. Thank you to everyone who knocked doors for our candidates all over the state. Hopefully, you're as excited as we are to continue to cut taxes, pass balanced budgets, continue to promote freedoms here in the state of Iowa. Again, thank you for your support. We have a great team. Let's continue to celebrate because Iowa is the Freedom Capitol of the Midwest. Thank you."
