Today, Representative Bobby Kaufmann (R-Wilton) was named Chairman of the Iowa House Ways and Means Committee by Speaker Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford).

"I am honored to be named chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee," said Kaufmann. "Representative Hein is leaving big shoes to fill and I am grateful for my years of experience on the committee with him at the helm. As the Biden Administration has Iowans struggling to keep up with rising inflation and unprecedented gas prices, the job of ensuring Iowans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks has become all the more important. As Chairman of Ways and Means,  I will make it my mission to deliver a tax code that favors everyday Iowans and find additional opportunities to ease the tax burden on Iowans."

Kaufmann has served on the Ways and Means Committee since the 2017 Legislative Session. Most recently, he has served as Chair of the State Government Committee. Previous to that, Kaufmann served as Chair of the Government Oversight Committee.

"Representative Kaufmann has been an asset to the House Republican caucus since his first session in 2013 and I'm eager to see him step into this new role," Grassley said. "With him as a member of the committee, Ways and Means has led on historic tax reforms, lowering income taxes for every single Iowan, eliminating taxes on retirement income, and removing sales tax from a growing list of items. I am confident in Representative Kaufmann's ability to lead on responsible tax policy that will make sure Iowans keep more of their hard-earned money."

Effective immediately, Kaufmann replaces Representative Lee Hein (R-Monticello) as chair of Ways and Means.
