Today, House Speaker Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) and Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver (R-Ankeny) announced the appointment of Tim McDermott as Director of the Legislative Services Agency. McDermott was named interim director on January 8, 2021.

Majority Leader Whitver and Speaker Grassley released the following statement regarding the permanent appointment of McDermott to Director of LSA:
 
“We appreciate the work Tim McDermott has done stepping into the role as Interim Director as session began last year. We look forward to continuing to work with Tim McDermott to maintain the high quality of professionalism and service provided by LSA staff to the General Assembly.”
 
Timothy McDermott has worked in state government for over 28 years.  Most of that time has been spent in various positions with the Legislative Services Agency including serving as Division Director of the Legal Services Division, Division Administrator of the Fiscal Services Division, and Senior Legal Counsel with the Legal Services Division.  Prior to that service, Mr. McDermott was a law clerk for both the Supreme Court of Iowa and the Iowa Court of Appeals.  Mr. McDermott holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the College of Wooster and a J.D. from the Wake Forest University School of Law.
